Estee Lauder’s blacker than black collection – due to hit counters on April 19 – features four black, glossy mascaras and an eyeshadow quad for the smokiest eye.

Ah yes, the smokey eye… that old rascal has been kicking around for a few seasons now and doesn’t look likely to disappear anytime soon.

To keep the eye looking fresh, blend eyeshadows so that there are no hard lines or stripes, apply a decent kohl line and lashings of mascara. Like two or three coats. Oh and before you do that give your lashes a good squish in an eyelash curler.

This collection sees four favourite Estee Lauders re-released with blacker than black formulas using carbon black and black iron oxides. There’s the Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara, $55; Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara, $55; Projectionist High Definition Volume Mascara, $55; and finally Turbolash All Effects Motion Mascara, $55.

The signature eye shadow quad in Black Smoke, $78, includes a silver and light grey that look particularly pretty on those with blue eyes (but would also work on hazel eyes). The powder is silky and fine and builds up nicely and blends like a dream.
