Frameless Faces

625x270givenchyDo you recognise the model in the above Givenchy advertisement? Go on, have a guess. She’s an absolute hottie (of course) and we usually see her in her underwear or batting her perfect lashes. I bet you won’t get it.

It’s Adriana Lima. Uh huh – the Victoria’s Secret and Maybelline supermodel that looks so completely different here it’s almost unnerving. It’s not just the colour of her hair, or the fact that they’ve either photoshopped her skin porcelain or she’s just given up the spray tan for a week or two. It’s because they’ve bleached out her brows – something that is being considered the next big thing for our faces. Forget the bushy ‘Brooke Shields’ brow that has been favoured lately, hit the peroxide and knock it back a notch or two (on second thoughts don’t do it yourself, see a professional).

It’s a look that was seen on the fall runways at Prada and Balenciaga and has, according to the New York Times, trickled down to the street. People are actually bleaching their brows into oblivion by choice. Even guys are doing it.

Would you? Sometimes I think I would like my brows to go lighter, especially when my hair is, but I don’t think I’d go so far as to completely remove the look of them. I just can’t shake the ‘brows are the frames of the face’ mantra that has been drilled into me over the years.

Apparently Stephen Marr in Auckland do a splendid job of bleaching brows. Has anyone tried this? What do you think of Adriana’s new look? Hot or not?

I can’t help but feel I would be naked without my brows, but I love the change it has made to her look…… hmmmmm, what to do!

I don’t like that look at all, will be leaving my brows their natural shade
