champagne & tiaras

Hands up those who watched the Royal wedding on Friday night? How fun was it! A moment in history unfolding right before our very eyes. I loved it.
Being half British I decided to embrace my Pommy heritage and I threw a little party to celebrate the special affair. Champagne, nibbles and tiaras with some girlfriends. It was such a fun night. We placed bets on the dress (SO delighted that it was a McQueen) and of course squealed with glee at the balcony kiss.
I know everyone has an opinion about the dress – I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. It was very much Grace Kelly meets McQueen and even though I would have loved to have seen her wear something more avant garde the reality is that she is very conservative and she’s marrying a Prince. She had to wear something that we wouldn’t cringe about later (unlike Princess Diana’s poufy dress that looks incredibly dated now).
I’m not a dressmaker so I won’t dissect the details – I’ve read that it was created by hand using very old sewing techniques and the traditionalist in me LOVES that.
I thought her sister Pippa looked HOT. Almost upstaged her (again, she had to be a ‘virginal’ bride not a sexy minx). But if it were up to me – I’d rather be in the bridesmaid’s dress in heartbeat.
It’s such a funny thing – I know people are very divided about whether we need a monarchy or not. I personally am quite neutral. I love the history of it, even if it seems outdated.
I couldn’t help but think of all those Phillipa Gregory books I’ve read – The Other Boleyn Girl etc… how winning the hand in marriage of the future king is such an achievement. I think she’s made a massive sacrifice (on a personal level) to marry him… but I think it’s wonderful that she was able to marry him and that they are clearly in love.
What did you think?
Tamsin xoxo
