Gareth Pugh for MAC
Launching next week, is the highly-coveted collaboration between MAC and London fashion designer, Gareth Pugh.
Pugh’s designs often challenge the blur between the gender line – his women are strong, tough, sexy but also sometimes aesexual. This collection comes in typical Pugh geometric packaging, it feels weighty in the hand and is not for the weak at brush. Think strong mauve shadows and lips, geometric false lashes and technicolour Kohls, you will most definitely want to snap this up now, even if you save wearing the heaviest looks until next Autumn.
According to vogue.co.uk this collection is based on the same principle as his clothing: a study of opposites (black and white). Pugh said, “it’s like the positive and negative elements of a battery. They are ttotal opposites but when combined together they create energy.”
He explains further that there are two stories in the collection, one obviously being light and the other dark. The light is based on silver and grey tones whereas the dark is blue and purple. He says he likes to explore the hard side of beauty, which is evident in the androgynous looks in his shows.
One thing for sure is that it is a very exciting and possibly one of my favourite collections to come with MAC (although I do think that every time!), Pugh, a self-confessed perfectionist, said he worked at length with the product development team to create the best range it could be. This process is rumoured to have taken two years. Well worth it.
