Amber D keyed this look, which is one of my all-time favourites! (here’s what she did in 2009) The inspiration was “1940s girls with too much time on their hands so they spend it primping and priming”. Amber sourced plastic surgery tape from the US and used it to pull back the models faces into an almost cat-like appearance. A non surgical facelift! It was oddly attractive and made some girls look quite catlike.
To get gorgeous creamy skin the artists used Strobe cream or Liquid Lotion as a base and then Studio Sculpt or Mix Master foundation for a creamy finish. Prep and Prime Translucent powder was dusted under the eyes and around the nose. A soft contour with Silver Dusk was done along the cheekbones.
Eyes: Groundwork Paintpot Sheer with #217 brush as base swept up into the same shape as brows. The brows were strong and defined with Clear Brow Set and Matte Eyeshadows (cork, espresso). Loads of mascara – lashings of Haute and Naughty. Phloof eyeshadow was used to highlight the browbone.
Lips: Big, pouty cushions were created with Crimson Lip Mix using brush #210 for precision. Brick Lip Pencil was used in the centre for added depth.
The hair also had a ’40s feel with rolls and curls. Grant Bettjeman and his team used L’Oreal products.
