Perfect long-lasting red lippy
With red lips in style this season we’ve asked make-up artist Grayson Coutts for three easy steps to apply longer lasting perfect red lippy!
The classic red lip is iconic of 50’s flawless beauty. But the problem with this look is the colour tends to wear off easily on your wine glass during dinner.
And unlike the ladies of the 50s, we don’t have hours to spend getting ready in the morning and need a quick fix to produce the same level of perfection.
We don’t ask for much do we? Luckily I have the answer (for the perfect red lip anyway).
Prep and Prime:
1. Before you start your make-up, apply a really good lip conditioner.
2. Once the rest of your makeup is done, your lips should be nice and moist and you can remove any excess balm with a tissue.
3. Next, apply a lip primer or a small amount of concealer and face powder to remove any colour from the lips.
Line Up:
1. Use a red lip liner to outline the shape of the lips. This is where you can correct the shape if your lips are naturally crooked or lopsided.
2. Check the lips are even on both sides and then fill them in using the liner.
Colour In:
1. Use a red lipstick in a matte shade and a lip brush to fill in the lips to about 1mm from the edge of the liner.
Pro tip: skip the gloss. The more matte the colour, the longer it will stay and the less likely it will come off on your glass.
Pair this with nue eyes: bold, black eyeliner and mascara a la Dita Von Tesse.
Here’s some products Grayson recommends:

1. Stila Lip liner in Red
2. Dior Lipstick in Iconic Red
3. Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Lavish
4. MAC Lip Erase
5. Clinique Lip liner in Deep Red
6. Covergirl Lipstick in Cherry Bomb
7. NARS Lipstick in Heatwave
8. L’Oreal Infallible Lip Colour in Beyonce
Have you got a red lip stick?
Which kind do you have?
Or are you more of a lip gloss lady?
