RAFW Shakuhachi hair

After a few years of rocking the top knot, this m’dear Gossies, is how I plan on wearing my hair: a low, messy ponytail.

Not cheerleader high and happy – but low at the nape of the neck and fuzzy. Like you’ve just got out of bed… after ahem… you know.

The key is texture – yes that old word again, it seems to be a very common theme in hair-land right now. Texture is actually quite hard to get. To do it right you need to texturise locks from root to tip – the WHOLE lot. Not just one bit, trust me, I’ve tried that and it looks like shit. I recommend practicing on a day when your hair doesn’t really matter (ie not when you’ve got important meetings or say a launch!) and then going out with it when it’s perfected.

For the show, Paloma Rose Garcia wanted to create a modern take on a 60s inspired ponytail. She used Cloud Nine’s Wide Iron to get a natural bend (not full on curl) through the hair. The end result: matt, raw and fluffy! Who would think we’d be celebrating such things in hair…

Here’s a brief how-to:

1. Create a centre part

2. To get a bit of grit and texture spray a sea salt product through the hair. Blow dry using your fingers to create a matt, fluffy texture.

3. Starting at the nape of the neck, take horizontal sections and using the iron, create loose, natural waves through the hair.

4. To do this: Clamp the iron vertically to the roots (cord facing sky), rotate it one turn (180 degrees) and glide it through to the roots. TIP: holding the iron vertically will ensure you keep and maintain length in the style.

5. Using fingers only, rake hair towards the nape. Leave some strands to fall over ears and secure with a hair tie.

6. To create that wispy, static finish the team used a crazy technique whereby they rubbed a deflated balloon across the hair. (Ah ha!)

7. Spray a light hold hairspray to set the final look.

What do you think girls? Gonna rock it?

Tamsin xoxo
