No trend has been stronger or recently, more popular than this season’s lust for nude shades.
From champagne creams to blush pinks, it’s everywhere. Anna Kendrick and Cameron Diaz wore nude gowns at this year’s Oscars and it’s a standout feature of the S/S 2010 lines coming out of Europe.
Unfortunately for me, I had wholeheartedly embraced last year’s focus on bright citruses, corals and neons, and my wardrobe looks a bit like a migraine. A great way to get your foot in the door with a new trend is with makeup, and where better than nail polish.
Industry giants O.P.I. have re-released two of their classic nude best-sellers, Dolce de Leche (a soft pinky-brown) and Samoan Sand (creamy-beige).
As someone who just feels wrong without bright red toes, it took me a while to get used to the muted shades. After a bit though, I felt extra glamorous and oh-so-grown-up, like I’d stepped out of my cute zippy Mini Cooper and into a full leather interior Mercedes Benz.
Dulce de Leche made me want to wear a beige soft leather trench coat and graduated over-sized Prada sunglasses, with a $200 blowwave waving in the wind whilst I strolled the Piazza Navona with George Clooney.
Samoan Sand had me imagining a cut-out one-piece swimsuit, large floppy brimmed hat and a smiling waiter bringing me a cool mojito in St. Barts.
Back in the real world, my hands actually suited the less garish appearance of bright colours, with my fingers appearing longer and more toned, and the skin on my hands more warm. Total bonus, chips weren’t as noticeable.
