premium hair

img_0679Growing old doesn’t just mean lacklustre skin and a saggy face. It affects your scalp and hair too.

There are three main concerns with mature hair – fibroporosity, loss of density and a dry scalp. This is because as we get older our hair becomes more fragile and susceptible to the effects from the environment. There’s also a decline in the number of blood capillaries on the scalp which in turn reduces blood flow to the root of the hair causing it to thin out, wither and die. Sebum production also slows down resulting in dry hair. Colour pigments fade and some hair becomes coarkerastase-age-premiumser when it’s grey. Oh god. Sounds dreadful right?

Well it can be helped – Kerastase have just launched a specific hair care line for mature hair (ie anyone over 60 years). There are three products: Rejuvenating Hair Bath, $36; Masque Substantif, $62; and Lacque Substantif, $38. There’s also a wonderful hair ritual performed at select salons (to find your nearest call 0800 657 666).

Here’s an interesting fact I learnt today – I was at Servilles in Ponsonby receiving a Pureology Hair Treatment (more about that later) and the stylist told me that the difference between Pureology and Kerastase is that Kerastase focuses first on scalp care and then locks whereas Pureology is all about hair care (they’re the same price). Which is great when you’re looking for a specific treatment like this where it all seems to slide downhill when the scalp stops rejuvenating.

Here’s a pic of me and my Mum at Bettjemans after she sampled the Age Premium Ritual. She LOVED it. Doesn’t she look great?
