Dry Bar
This is something I’ve been banging on to my friends about for ages – a dry bar… a blow bar… whichever way you call it, it’s a salon dedicated to just wash and dry. You walk in with stringy, greasy, unkempt hair and leave looking shiny and new. Like Malibu barbie, only better – like YOU.
The Dry Bar on Sunset Boulevard is something I’m going to miss a lot. For just $35 you get a dry style of your choice. The menu is fun, choose from: straight up (straight with a slight wave at the ends), mai tai (messy and beachy), southern comfort (height, volume and curl), cosmopolitan (loose curls) and a manhatten (sleek and smooth). There’s also the Shirley Temple for under 10s.
The first time we went I chose the Mai Tai, the second I went for what seems to be the most popular in LA, the long, loose curls of the Cosmopolitan. Belinda chose two Manhatten’s.
It’s a stylish environment that is very simple in design and constantly buzzing. Yes, you could say that is due to it’s position – on busy Sunset Boulevard, in a city that has a lot of people with a lot of disposable income (the rich make our rich look poor). But it’s a concept I sincerely believe could work here. For my own selfish reasons I wish it existed here.
There were 10 stations – you can book in advance or you can just drop in. Drop ins had a wait of 30 minutes and booking in was fairly easy. Each person got complimentary coffee, tea or bubbles. Each dry came with a wash and took about 45 minutes. Each dry lasted a good couple of days. Worth the dollars.
So please – someone add a $35 blow bar to their business.
Tamsin xoxo
