Beauty Spot: Aimie Fiebig
Highly sought after makeup Artist Aimie Fiebig has just moved back home to Auckland after living in Sydney for 10 years. There she worked on all the glossies and did numerous advertising campaigns. She shares her beauty secrets…
What’s your earliest makeup memory? My grandmother was a makeup artist and I was inspired by how she could transform faces. After a stint at art school I decided to give it a go, thanks to many helpful hands along the way. For anyone wanting to get into freelance makeup work, I strongly suggest assisting. Sometimes that requires working next to nothing or for free, but I learnt priceless teachings from one of my heroes.
What’s your daily makeup routine? It’s very basic – I don’t cleanse in the morning as I feel skin repairs itself overnight and produces natural oils. I use a light moisturiser and for day use a tinted moisturiser (Laura Mercier), mascara, light blush on the apples of the cheeks and lip balm.
How long does it take you to get ready? It takes me literally 5 minutes to get ready for day and 15 minutes max for evening. Some people don’t suit a lot of makeup and I feel that I’m one of them.
How do you change this for evening? I still keep things fairly natural. Dewy skin and an eyeline, lots of mascara!
Which do you prefer – Lips or eyes? Love either, never both unless you’re heading to a fancy dress party. A strong lip looks super sexy with healthy glowing skin and a layer of glossy lashes.
Favourite nailpolish? Essie, “Forever Young” or OPI, “Bubble Bath”
How do you wear your nails? Short, although I’d go more for mid length. Really long nails freak me out.
Products you just can’t live without? I will always love Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream and Nivea Body moisturiser – an old classic.
What are you looking for? I’m constantly searching for a product to chill out my crazy thick hair. Moroccan Oil is the closest thing to it.
What’s your signature fragrance? Amariage de Givenchy, I have worn it for over 16 years and I never tire of it. Old school friends can’t believe I still wear it but I also get lots of compliments on it.
Biggest beauty faux pas? Maybe the fact that I don’t really wear makeup.
Best beauty advice you’ve ever been given? To really look after your skin. Your skin is the canvas for applying makeup. Drink lots of water, cleanse at night and most importantly – stay out of the sun!
What’s a beauty blunder you cringe remembering? Probably the matt/nude lipstick in the 90s. I looked dead – especially teamed with the foundation two shades lighter than my face.
What would you tell the younger you, if you could turn back time? I would tell myself to NEVER put my face in the sun, ever. Never smoke and avoid as much sugar as possible. All of the above is deadly for skin ageing.
What’s a trend you’re considering trying? I’d like to possibly try the bright lip trend. Or a dark eye? Maybe just wearing more makeup!
