Beauty Spot: Charlotte Devereux
Stunning Charlotte Devereux (pictured with her 10 month old daughter, India) has been solving the style problems of pregnant women for years with her label Egg Maternity, a company she runs with her equally gorgeous mother Colyn. The two manage to mix fashion with an often unusual size and also provide practical options for those in the corporate workforce. So on-trend are her designs, that Charlotte has often found women continuing to wear her clothes after the baby is born. She’s finally taken the well deserved step to launch a resort line, Charlotte Devereux.
She plays beauty with us…
What’s your earliest makeup memory? Discovering my mother Colyn’s treasure trove of makeup – there was something so comforting in smelling her face powder. I would love to watch her ritual of getting ready. She would always wear a pretty pink lipstick which she also popped on the apple of her cheeks – she still does this to this day and looks just as pretty.
What was your first perfume? Anias Anais, although I hate to admit – I also wore something very sickly sweet called Dewberry from the Body Shop.
Now, do you have a signature scent? I still love light, feminine florals. For the past two years I have been wearing Marc Jacobs Daisy.
Describe your everyday makeup look and what products you use: I love the look of dewy, glowing skin (which doesn’t happen naturally these days) so with the help of Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear and Cover Girl Tru Cheeks this helps to gain that glow. I am also partial to Cover girl lipstain and L’Oreal glam shine in colour forever young as it stays on for most of the day (rarely do I find time to reapply lipstick!) I always finish with smokey grey eyeliner and lashings of Maybelline XXL Curl Power Mascara. I am known as a bit of a budget supermarket girl when it comes to buying makeup!
How do you change this for night? For a bit more coverage I use Maxfactor Age Renew foundation and to get that glow I highlight my cheeks with Mac strobe cream. I only discovered eye shadow and eyeliners in the past few years and I have to stop myself with not going to over the top as I love the smoky eye look. I would book into Mac every time I had a special occasion if I could as they do it the best!
What was the last item of makeup you bought? Revlon Colour Stay Mineral Lipglaze. It has an odd smell and taste though so I have only worn it twice. Big lesson never buy makeup when you have 3 children in tow!
What’s on your shopping list to get? Nars Blusher in orgasm – I always read about it and how fab it is.
Biggest hair/makeup disaster you’ve had. The popular thing when I was 14 was to put a product called Sun In your hair (basically bleach) Not a good look on frizzy, sun damaged hair that took on a ginger hue.
What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery? I think if it makes you feel better about yourself I am all for it as long as people don’t go to extremes.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about the industry? That many of the cheaper brands are just as good as more expensive brands – they just may not use all the fancy packaging (maybe it is my excuse though for being a supermarket girl!)
Best beauty discovery? Omnilux hand held light treatment. I am not sure if it has got rid of my wrinkles but is does help with that glow. I sit in front of T.V with it on my face much to my husband’s horror!
Ultimate indulgence is? I am a sucker for a good spa and I have been very fortunate to experience some wonderful ones on my travels across the word. I had the most incredible treatment in a spa in Jaipur in India. Pure heaven.
What advice would you tell the younger you if you could go back in time? Sun block of course and ease off on the foundation as it only makes you look older. One thing I always say to my 9 year old daughter Jasmin – less is more (when she is playing dress ups with my makeup)
Has motherhood changed your beauty routine and if so, in what way? I take 5 mins to do my makeup in the morning and that has definitely speeded up since having children. I do however make sure that I take some time out to have a manicure once every few months and I go to Bliss for a Reflexology treatment at least once a month. This I never did before children. I think we as women are not always good at looking after ourselves and we need to say to ourselves a facial is not a treat but a necessity as it also gives you some time out. Note to one self regular facials start next week!
