Beauty Spot: Lucy Marr

_mg_4030Hairdresser and salon owner Lucy Marr has just launched her own range of body and hair products aptly named Sans (they are bursting full of active ingredients without chemical nasties like parabens). As founder of the Lucy and the Powder Room in her Newmarket salon, you could say Lucy is something of a beauty-junkie. She’s tried it, she’s tested it and she’s created the perfect products to fit that gap. Whenever I see Lucy she manages to look natural in that tousled, rock n roll way, while still being stylish. What I love about her is that she rarely wears loads of makeup. And she’s got two kids. And a busy business. And she still looks good. Not fair. She shares her beauty secrets.

What’s your earliest makeup memory?

Peel off glitter nail polish & cherry roll on lipgloss.

What was your first perfume? Mum’s Miss Dior.

Now, do you have a signature scent? I wear Santo Pyor Vanilla Sandalwood – it’s a new line of high-end organic fragrances we are producing.

Describe your everyday makeup look and what products you use:

Natural, practical – its all about good skin.

How do you change this for night? Stays the same – I’m all about no fuss.

What was the last item of makeup you bought?

About 40 Becca blushers, 100 Nvey Eco organic foundations and 200 gorgeous Becca lipsticks plus loads more. I am about to open a boutique beauty bar at The Department Store called The Marr Lab [it has opened!]. I have hand selected some of the most amazing skincare and beauty brands that are non-toxic, pure and really active or the make-up artists make-up.

What’s on your shopping list to get?

There are these beautiful lip glosses in the organic Nvey Eco range – we are due to get them next week! Yippee!

What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery – would you? Have you?

Just not into it – it’s just not my thing. Each to their own but I can’t imagine that it would ever make me look 25 again.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about the industry?

How lovely and down to earth people are.

Best beauty discovery? Sans Lip Aid – it is part of my new product range – I had it formulated specially and even if it wasn’t mine I still would buy it!

Ultimate indulgence is? No noise or dozing on the couch with my kids – bliss!

Has motherhood changed your beauty routine and if so, in what way?

Actually no it hasn’t. I have always been pretty minimal and opt for quality of what goes on first rather than spending time applying make-up.

What advice would you tell the younger you if you could go back in time?

It is hard because to really understand you have live life and learn yourself – I think that everything you go through is necessary to becoming who you are as you get older and I am really enjoying that.  Maybe I would have said talk to people you respect – never be afraid to ask and get your self a really great mentor.
