Beauty Spot: Megan Prowd

megan_prowdAustralia’s Harper’s BAZAAR has sent their gorgeous online assistant Megan Prowd to cover Air New Zealand Fashion Week, we asked her to play beauty with us…

What’s your earliest makeup memory?

I’m going to go with a cliché here and say Mum’s lipstick. I think it was a shade of coral pink (it was the 80s, after all).

What was your first perfume?

My Mum always wore Estee Lauder White Linen. When I was about 12 my Dad started buying it for me to too. I loved that perfume.

Now, do you have a signature scent?

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is always on rotation, although I add others- currently it’s Narciso Rodriguez Musk for her and Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose and Gardenia.

Describe your everyday makeup look and what products you use:

I’m very minimal when it comes to makeup- I prefer to spend my time and money on skin care so that I don’t need much makeup. I prefer fresh, glowy look so I use Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, Clinique Super City Block SPF40, Stila Tinted Moisturiser or Laura Mercier foundation, NARS concealer and blush in Orgasm and Estee Lauder mascara.

How do you change this for night?

I usually add some eye pencil in a black or dark blue shade and a dark eyeshadow- like MAC shadow in Print or NARS shadow in Galapagos. Or I keep it simple and wear bright lipstick- usually pink or red – like NARS lipstick in Heat Wave.

What was the last item of makeup you bought?

Not technically makeup, but possibly the best beauty buy ever - Tweezerman Lighted Slant Tweezers. They have a built in LED light - genius.

What’s on your shopping list to get?

Many, many things. In particular, NARS Laguna bronzer for summer and Acqua di Parma Blu Meditteraneo- Fico di Amalfi fragrance mist: it’s the ultimate light summer fragrance.

Biggest hair/makeup disaster you’ve had?

I once let my sister talk me into colouring my hair- it was an absolute disaster (she tried to assure me it looked great, but I had stopped listening to her by then). I wore a scarf for two days before I could get it fixed.

What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery – would you? Have you?

I haven’t, but I’m still in my 20s so I won’t cast judgement on women who have procedures that I will likely be considering in a few years.

Best beauty discovery?

It sounds harsh and emits Sex and the City references from anyone I tell, but mild chemical peels work wonders for my skin.

Ultimate indulgence is?

Hydrating facials and regular manicures.

What advice would you tell the younger you if you could go back in time?

I would tell the young me to ignore the fact that sunscreen stung my eyes and wear it anyway!
