Beauty Spot: Rickie Dee

Superette’s Rickie Dee shares her secrets to looking good.

What’s your earliest makeup memory?

As a kid me and my friends used to make our own, we spent hours in the bathroom mixing Mum’s lipsticks and creams into new modified versions. We would then apply them to each other or set up pretend stalls with other kids and try and sell them.

What was your first perfume?

CK One! At the time I loved it and think every teenage girl did.

Now, do you have a signature scent? I usually keep a fragrance the same until I run through the bottle and then I move onto a new one. Currently I am loving Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily  and prior to that it was Kai  – I love anything gardenia and tuberose scented and this was perfect…like being on a constant tropical holiday.

Describe your everyday makeup look and what products you use: I am not into the heavy makeup look and keep what I wear each day simple and the same. A little boring I know. I use MAC Face and Body foundation: amazingly light and doesn’t give you a caked on look, NARs eyeliner and bronzer and then a nude MAC lipliner and  lipgloss. If I go near eyeshadow it is a mess! It is a technique I never got the grasp of.

How do you change this for night?

The only thing I change is by going a bit heavier on the eyeliner and often opt for fake eye lashes in the corner of my eyes.

What was the last item of makeup you bought?

Nars Body Oil from Mecca. It smells divine!! I do love that shop – it is dangerous.

What’s on your shopping list to get?

As summer hits I like to get a good beach look hair product and good facial moisturiser with an SPF.

Biggest hair/makeup disaster you’ve had?

A spiral perm at the age of 13. Each morning I would intensify the curls with mousse. Not the best hair do I have had as I’m sure you can imagine!

What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery – would you? Have you?

If you think you need it and it makes you happy – go for it. I certainly haven’t and at my age it is not something i will be looking at doing for a while yet if ever- I hope!

Best beauty discovery?

Paw Paw Ointment. It is the best thing to carry in your handbag as you always find a need for it. Everything from Lips, Itchy Bites and burns are just a few things it sorts out.

Ultimate indulgence is?

A blow dry a couple of times a week with Natalie from Jarvis and getting my acrylic nails tended two every two weeks since the age of 18.

What advice would you tell the younger you if you could go back in time?

Eat properly, I used to snack on next to nothing when I was in my teens. This unfortunately stunted my bone density growth and eventuated in me breaking my hip and after spending over a year on crutches having to have a hip replacement. Definately not worth it!

Has motherhood changed your beauty routine and if so, in what way?

It has certainly speed the routine up! I hardly ever use the hairdryer at home anymore as just don’t have time, I used to spend the odd night with a mask on my face, but don’t think I have used one since Rocco was been born (he is 15 months now). Likewise with trips to the hairdresser for colours or Equipoise for waxing or facials… the distance between each visit has lengthened. However it is all worth it!!
