Beauty Spot: Sarah from Cleo

sarahI am the Beauty Editor for CLEO magazine. I worked my little butt off to get where I am and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel grateful for the job I have. I get to do what I love every day. I play with product, I go to launches of new ranges, I interview makeup artists, I write features. I am living the Makeup-Addicts dream!!!

What’s your usual daily makeup routine? On the days I work, it is the full shoe-shine. Starting with a makeup primer, mineral foundation, bronzer, blush and a highlighter. Eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara and finished off with a smattering of nude gloss. On a day at home with my wee man Theo (3 years) it is tinted moisturiser, bronzer and mascara.

Does it take you long to get ready? I have it down to a fine art and so can be out of the shower and ready 20 minutes later.

What would you do if you had more time to get ready? I would spend more time on my hair. I am not the best at doing hair and would love to have time to play and experiment in the mornings with different looks.

What’s your favourite evening look right now? I have and will always love smoky eyes. I do them all the time, day or night. Lashings of black mascara or even individual false lashes and then a pale lip – aaaahhhhhh gorgeous!

Are you an eyes or lips girl? Hehe – please see above. Always the eyes. I sometimes play with a red lip and keep the eyes minimum, but I find it hard not to play up the eyes – they just beg to be dressed up.

Favourite nail polish colour? Both ends of the spectrum for me – dark chocolate brown or pale nude are my two all-time faves.

Long nails? Or short? I have them a medium length. I get my nails done every 2 weeks. I think nice nails are really important and so its something I am willing to invest time and money in. Too short and my hands look stumpy and too long, I can’t function, so my manicurist and I have come up with a perfect in between length that works.

What’s the one beauty product you’ve used for years and can’t give up? Prevage!!! I am totally in love with it! I have used it ever since it launched and I can’t seem to stop my expensive addiction.

What are you searching for? The ultimate volume boosting hair product. I have very fine hair and am always on the hunt for a product that gives it some serious oomph.

Which fragrance/s are you wearing and why? I alternate between Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, Jo Malone Pomegranite Noir and Narciso Rodriguez for her. They are all musky, sexy scents and I adore them. The problem is, I love them all so much, they don’t last long on my dressing table.

What beauty faux pas are you always committing? I got into a terrible habit of using wipes every night to remove my make-up. Although they are a very handy product, I am not sure you should use them every night. That is why I have made a resolution to kick the habit and turn my cleansing into a ritual and so far, so good.

Best beauty advice you’ve ever read/heard? Smile – So underrated – but it honestly makes you look so much more beautiful. Makeup can make you look pretty, but it really is what comes from the inside that truly makes you beautiful. (so cliché, I know, but so true)

If you could turn back time, which hair/makeup disaster would you avoid making? The perm!!! Arrrghhhhh. So many conditioning treatments to get rid of the evidence of a spiral perm! I also wouldn’t have plucked my eyebrows so much. It look a long time to get them back to some resemblance of an eyebrow after being over-zealous with the tweezers when I was younger.

What advice would you tell the younger you? Freckles aren’t as bad as you think!

What trend are you considering trying…? Well I have recently come over to the light side and had my hair made a lot blonder. For as long as I can remember I have had very dark brown hair, so I am having a lot of fun with that at the moment. I am considering staying light for a while.
