Hair Directions
Over lunch and bubbles today, beauty editors got a sneak peek at hair directions for summer thanks to Wella and Sebastian.
We were presented with key looks from four hair gurus; Lauren Gunn from Stephen Marr, Shar Sutherland from Sutherland Todd in Christchurch, Vincent Noble from Headcase Hair and Frank Apostolopoulos from Biba in Victoria.
Each were different but with similar themes.
The biggest trend is in colour – blondes are getting a cool update from Blondor, Wella’s salon colour. Apparently this makes even brunette hair an icy blonde – perfect for those that might have had to have undertaken a two-step process before. You can now get a ‘gold’ blonde without worrying about it turning brassy – yusss!
A look that I’m particularly interested in, and will be talking to Mobeen about tomorrow, is what Lauren called the ‘dip dye’ look – that’s darker roots and lighter ends. Sure, you could mistake this for a lazy, ‘didn’t get my roots done’ look but it is actually more crafted than this. When I spoke with her about this after her demonstration, she said that I might want to take my roots darker and blend the edges a bit – to get that true definition.
Lauren called her style, ‘desert couture’ – it’s crimped, teased and textured with plaits and low hanging ponytails. Whereas last summer volume sat on top of heads in the form of the infamous top knot, this summer try fattening it up at the back of the head or nape. Proving her skill in arts and crafts, Lauren and stylist Dan Ahwa, tied thread around hair slides – an accessory that is instantly interesting and unique. Think friendship bands for the head.
Frank demonstrated his skill for precision cutting with a short, sharp, angular bob that was longer on one side than the other. This isn’t my thing – but it certainly looked striking. Most importantly the hair condition is AMAZING. Sleek and shiny (thanks to System Professional products of course!).
Shar showed the dip dye look with creamy blondes. Her model arrived that morning with mousy hair and the transformation was beautiful and very natural.
Sebastian is set to release a new range of products called Volupt which will change the way we add oompf to hair. Vincent showed gorgeous curls cascading down a models back.
My favourite look is the first… I just love that wild, textured, catwalk look.
What do you think?
