Kavanagh and Guido

Richard Kavanagh has just returned from a whirlwind trip around New York, Milan and Paris for the various fashion weeks.
He was originally only going to New York, but got tapped on the shoulder to join the crew in Europe and so with true kiwi ingenuity he did. He just went. Awesome.
He worked with luminary hairstylist Guido Palau on the following shows:
New York: Diesel, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren
Milan: Prada, Alberta Ferretti, Versace, Bottega Venetta, Roberto Cavalli
Paris: Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Lanvin, Pedro Lourenco, Jean Paul Gaultier, Akris, Sonia Rykiel, Yves Saint Laurent, Chloe.
and describes the experience as ‘fucking awesome!!!’.
Guido is one of the most reverred hairstylists in the industry. He is the Global Spokesperson for Redken and fashion show veteran.
‘He is an incredibly passionate hairstylist with an unswerving commitment to his vision,’ explains Richard. ‘He is one of the most courageous hairdressers I’ve seen and his technical skill is excellent. He has a single minded vision for a show, an innate sense of fashion and the ability to manipulate hair to his will. He is a formidable leader who surrounds himself with the best people and pushes them to shine at the highest level.’
The hair at Chloe was glamorous and gorgeous – a mash of loosely-curled-60s with long- lengths-70s.
‘Hair was filled with mousse (Redken Fullframe) and blow dried with a boar bristle roundbrush then brushed out with a mason pearson and lightly sprayed with Redken Workforce 09,’ explains Richard, who added that some ends were tonged for extra bounce.
Meanwhile for Cavalli, Richard said the team added hair extensions to create length and boho-chick wispiness with a backcomb at the crown for height and ‘bardo-esque sex appeal’. Works a treat.
I asked him if there were any surprises – anything new to learn and he said, ‘no, hair is hair is hair the world over.
‘Show hair requires a high skill level and speed, speed, speed without compromising the finish’, he said. ‘I was amazed at the amount of product Guido likes to use, he really uses styling products well and in abundance to help get the hair to behave.’
And while it certainly would appear that a centre part is once again the way to wear hair, Richard is quick to point out that it is only for the long loose hair out styles. ‘All the clean tight hairstyles were parted low and clean on the side. Clean hairlines.’
Got it? Clean dude. Beautiful.
