My Summer Essentials: Nikki Lovrich

Here’s the next post for our Your Summer Essentials series where we take you inside the wardrobe and makeup bag of leading people in New Zealand’s fashion and beauty industry!

This week we spoke to makeup artist and stylist Nikki Lovrich! Nikki has extensive experience in makeup helping style celebs such as The Bee Gees, Good Charlotte and kiwi’s Crowded House as well as working on magazines such as Bride & Groom.

1. What do you love about summer?
I’m a real beach person and would be happy to live in the warm weather all year round! What I love most about summer is that getting dressed is so simple… you just have to throw on a strappy sundress and sandals then you’re done! Whereas in the winter it’s all about boots, coats and jeans! I also love how the gardenias and frangipanis are in bloom- there’s no other fragrance that represents summer better!

2. How are you planning on spending this summer?
My family have a beach house at Muriwai on Auckland’s West Coast and I spend most of my summer there. We have a huge deck and panoramic view which looks out to the water and the sunset. I’m accumulating an exciting pile of novels that I can’t wait to get stuck into.

3. What are five essential items in your wardrobe this summer?

1. I can’t live without my denim cut offs. I’ve worn various versions since being a kid in the 70s and they are a wardrobe summer staple! My latest is a cool pair of Lucky Brands from Hawaii.
2. My Karen Walker sundresses. I have a collection of her soft, 100% cotton dresses and they are all loose, stylish and easy to wear- plus they never seem to date.
3. The denim mini is also an essential for me, as it takes the place of jeans for summer and I love how you can dress it up or down.
4. Maxi dresses are huge this summer and I have always loved them (the 70s again). I recently bought a gorgeous floral maxi at Sportsgirl and it looks great with cork platforms.
5. Flip flops. Wear them with anything and everything!

4. What are five essential items in your makeup bag this summer?

1. Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturising Balm. It gives sheer luminous coverage, adds colour, plus it has an SPF of 25. It takes the place of foundation in the summer.
2. Jane Iredale’s Powder Me SPF 30. I apply this over the tinted balm and it takes the shine away from the skin while providing protection. It comes in a plastic container with a self-dispensing puffer, so it’s super easy to apply.
3. Bobbi Brown Bronzer-it always looks natural (never orange) and has a matt finish so it blends into the skin seamlessly. I use it on the high points of my face for an instant tan!
4. MAC Mineralise Blush. I have about four different colours- (bronze, peach, rose and sheer) and I often mix them together for different effects. They always give a gorgeous glow to the skin without looking overdone.
5. Lucas’ PaPaw Ointment- this brilliant product is better than any lip balm and it’s only $10. It’s so soothing to the skin and has instant healing properties. I love it!
