NYFW Makeup Trend Report

New York Fashion Week is here in all of its glory! So get your hot little hands ready for the coolest makeup trends straight from the 2011 Fall/Winter catwalk! Beauty Goss HQ is going to be bringing you the all the new trends and makeup goss you need to keep you in the know!

NYFW has come and gone in the blink of an eye but not to worry we’ve now got your top five must-try trends! Overall the makeup was still very much inspired by the 1970s with bright bold colours and out there eye makeup! But don’t be disheartened there were natural day-time looks as well. Now just a note Gossies, these trends won’t technically be hitting our shores till this time next yet but what’s to stop you wearing them now you trend setter you!

 1. A bright, bold lip.

Statement lips were very much centre stage on the catwalk. Bright reds, burnt corals and hot pinks were popular but a deep burgundy plum or wine coloured lip stick was the show stopper. Custo Barcelona, Jenni Kayne and Diane von Furstenberg’s shows, as shown above, all featured the bright, bold lip worn with natural makeup or a touch of a smoky eye. Try it at home with minimal makeup and little mascara.

TIP Dab it on with your finger.

 2. Colourful smoky eyes

Smoky eyes are back again this Fall but with a twist…they’re injected with different shades of colour like the oh-so-hot-right-now lavender, a bright bright red or a gold bronze as shown above in the L.A.M.B, Thakoon and Cynthia Rowley shows. Pair these over-the-top eyes with a nude or slightly pearl coloured lip. It was apparent you either pick eyes or lips this season.

TIP Finish your smoky eye with a couple of coats of mascara.

 3. Out there eyeliner.

Rules are made to be broken right? Yes! And never more so than with your eyeliner this season! Back stage at NYFW saw makeup artists from DKNY, Vivienne Tam and Victor de Souza drawing well outside the lines with their eye liners to create original and dramatic eyes that bought another dimension to the runway. Wear with natural looking make up as this is the key element.

 4. Winged eye shadow.

Get ready to fly away with glee with this pretty new shape for your eye shadow. The winged eye look took eye shadow out towards the temple until it fades out. Its popularity on the runway makes this look seem as though it’s the new way to wear eye shadow. Pair it with natural makeup and understated lips.

TIP Apply foundation after your eye shadow so you can wipe about the excess powder that falls on your cheeks without wiping away your foundation.

 5. Natural, flawless skin.

The main trend for all the makeup on the runway was a natural complexion. The foundation makeup artists used created a dewy flawless skin look that didn’t look cakey or matte. This is something to truly rejoice about Gossies because creating a beautiful base with a foundation that acts as a second skin can only be a GOOD thing!

TIP If you apply foundation with a brush, go over it with your fingers afterwards as your natural body heat will help melt it into your skin.
