Recessionistas Unite

170x177beautygirlIn these troubled times, even us beauty fanatics have to tighten their belts (or in my case, loosen it due to too many comforting meals and wines).  Here are some quick tips on how to make your makeup go the extra mile.

  •        Mascara getting low? Place the tube in a glass of hot water for 5 minutes. This will release the dried up bits and will melt the wax in the mascara, ensuring at least another week’s worth of applications.
  •        Need a certain lip colour but don’t have it? Try mixing your existing colours. Or, apply the lipstick, and use a different colour gloss over the top. The effect can be surprising!
  •        Mix and match: I am a fan of using eye shadow as lipstick, and lip gloss for eyelids. First – apply your lipstick as a base. Then, using a shimmer eye shadow and your finger, gently smudge a layer of shadow over the top. I was taught to do this by a Shiseido make-up artist, and it’s a trick everyone should know. Same goes with gloss – makes your eyes pop! (Obviously, don’t use a dark gloss – light shimmer gloss only).
  •        Napoleon do a fantastic Cake Eyeliner Sealer that looks like an eye dropper bottle. It works by changing your powdery shadows into a liquid liner. All you need is an eyeliner brush and a steady hand to apply. Once on, it’s very hard to smudge so is perfect for a big night out. It’s cheap as anything, and my teeny bottle has lasted me years. In fact, I should probably get a new one.

What are your beauty saving tricks???

So – I just cancelled my hair appt…. I have postponed it for 2 weeks. Plan to wear scarves for the most part of that 2 weeks – but essentially I am saving a % of money because I will have nice hair for an extra 2 weeks at the end. Does that count?
