Get the Look: 1950′s curls

The curls of the 1950s are coming back in fashion with a modern take on the old style. The November cover of the Harper’s Bazaar magazine is the perfect example of the iconic, stylish and classy hairstyle.

We’ve asked well-known hair dresser Richard Kavanagh to tell us how to get our hair looking just as good!

Time required: 30 to 40 minutes
Hair length: Shoulder length or longer

Step one:
Apply a small amount of blow-dry gel to clean towel dried hair. Blast the hair with a hair dryer until it’s completely dry. Brush thoroughly to detangle.

Step two:
Part your hair on the side straight back from your left eye. Starting on the right hand side of the parting take diagonal sections about the same size as the barrel of your curling iron, spray each section lightly with light hold hairspray before wrapping the section of hair around the curling iron.

Step three:
Continue working in a brickwork type sectioning pattern until you’ve set all of your hair. Clip each section near the scalp with a pin curl clip or bobby pin to keep it in a barrel curl shape while it cools.

Step four:
When your hair has cooled take out all the clips starting at the bottom and thoroughly brush your hair with a cushion bristle brush. The more you brush the shinier it will get.

Tip: Add a small amount of a shine product, like Redken Outshine, for added polish and to clean up any flyaways.
