Gossie question: protection from chlorine

Gossie Kezia Lockhart asked us how to protect your hair from turning green when swimming in chlorine.  She says “As much as I love the colour green, destruction of expensive highlights is not much fun.” We can all relate to this!

We took this question to hair care guru Nigel Russell for his expert advice! Nigel is an experienced hairdresser and  trichologist who has launched his own range of hair care products called Holistic Hair for the treatment of common scalp and hair problems.

Here’s what Nigel advises Kezia!

The first thing is prevention so putting on a U.V. protective leave in conditioner BEFORE swimming in a chlorinated pool is the best step. Of course wearing a cap, although not that fashionable, is the most effective way to avoid it. There are now products available that deal with this problem. The Kerastase Soleil range can reduce greenage of hair but once it is in there it’s hard to remove.

Here’s a tip: Avoid letting the hair dry without rinsing the hair well after swimming in either salt or chlorine.
