Gossie Question: red hot hair

We’ve had another gossie question for our panel of experts! Ashleigh Adair asked us for hot shades of red for her hair this summer! She says she’s keen to go red from blonde before Christmas but is nervous!

To answer your question Ash we talked to fabulous hairdresser Richard Kavanagh for his expert advice on becoming a red head for summer!

Over to you Richard:

The first thing to determine when going red for summer is whether you go a cool red or warm red. Red hair is essentially copper (orange) and you can have variations in shade from cooler mahogany and auburn copper tones to warmer golden copper tones. Your hairdresser can help you determine this, but you can also work it out for yourself by basing it on whether you suit cooler or warmer coloured clothes.

Talk to your hairdresser about how much darker you want to go. I suggest a rich vibrant colour as it will tend to fade a bit through summer. And the screen sirens of the fifties and sixties always had a rich deep hue to their hair.

If your hair is really blonde or highly sensitised (bleached) you may need to pre-colour it so that the colour will hold and not look too washed out.

Otherwise, have fun!
