Hot Hair for Summer!

Beauty Goss HQ has been lucky enough to talk to well-known hair stylist Richard Kavanagh to bring you the hottest looks for hair this summer!

Richard is a leading hairdresser in New Zealand creating looks for top fashion designers, celebrities, music videos and magazine covers.  So rest assured the following hairstyles are on the money and here at Beauty Goss we love these effortless glam looks!

We’ve even got helpful ‘how to’ steps so you can recreate the looks yourself! Over to you Richard…

I would definitely say the overall vibe for summer is effortless, whether it’s glam or casual, short, long or medium or brown, red or blonde. The finish has a dusty feel to it reminiscent of the global traveller. And straight hair has a soft bend to it achieved with large curling tongs. It should feel slept on, lived in, easy, but well kept.

Look number one: The Curls

I think this is my favourite look of the three. It’s glamorous and playful, fun and sexy and elegant all at the same time. Complex, just like a woman.

The hair sits below the shoulders, is full and bouncy with a bohemian centre parting. It’s brushed generously to give a flyaway texture which is reminiscent of the resort wear of the seventies. The colour is an effortless ballayage of gold and ash blondes, slightly darker near the roots and lighter through the mid lengths and ends.

How to:

1. Recreate this look by spraying hair section by section with Redken Woolshake 08 before setting on a small curling iron in a spiral curl. Wrap the hair around the barrel of the iron from roots to ends allowing to twist and rope as you wind.
2. Brush out thoroughly with a Mason Pearson brush.
3. Spray lightly with Redken Forceful 23.
4. Extra strength and dusty texture can be created by first drying a generous amount of Redken Full Frame 07 styling mousse into dry hair.

Look number two: The Fringe

Fringes this summer are longer and grown out to give versatility of styling.  Wear it casually over the eyes at the weekend or swept to the side to show your (slightly) more serious side at work or study, variety is the key here.  Straight locks are layered loosely at the bottom. A slight bend through the mid lengths gives a slept on a silk pillow feel to the texture. The colour of vibrant copper is broken up with hints of raisin for depth and subtle contrast.

How to:

1. Recreate this look by blow drying hair with Redken Velvet Gelatine layered over full frame mouse for a bouncy cushioned finish.
2. Add a small amount of bend around the front by wrapping large sections of hair around a large curling iron.
3. Brush it out with a bristle brush.
4. Add definition to the fringe with a small amount of Redken Mat Sponge.

Look number three:  The Blondes

The look for summer is a dusty powdery finish.  Pastel blondes in hues of powder pink and lilac are a fun way to add depth and flavour to powder lightened blondes.  Colours are there for a fun time, not a long time and can be changed out weekly with a quick visit to your colourist.  Short hair is cropped tight at the back and left longer over the eyes for versatility of styling and finished casually with matt finish products.

How to:

1. Recreate this look by dampening dry hair with Redken Full Frame 07 styling mousse.
2. Layer with Redken Woolshake 08.
3. Push hair into place and let it dry naturally.
4. Brush it out to a dusty finish with a Mason Pearson brush.
5. Push it into shape and finish with some Redken Forceful 23 hairspray
