Nourishing Oils

Hi Sally,

It sure is, try a rosehip oil or Living Nature’s Radiance Night Oil. I’ve been using both and they work a treat. I was a huge fan of Trilogy’s Rose Hip Oil which sells for around $30 until I sampled Radiance Night Oil. What I love about RNO is the fragrance – it’s perfect for sending me off to the land of nod. But it’s also amazing at plumping up fine lines. I swear to you – the lines around my eyes have decreased since I started using this.

I was a bit dubious about using an oil on my face until I got pregnant. I smeared pure Vitamin E capsules EVERY NIGHT across my growing belly in an attempt to keep stretch marks at bay. I didn’t get ONE. And believe me, by the end of my third trimester my stomach was MASSIVE. I remained little everywhere else and was just a giant tummy walking around. I truly thought I’d get a mark or two but didn’t get a single one. Maybe I never would have? They say it’s genetic and my Mum did, so who knows if the Vitamin E capsules helped or not (I believe they did).

Using an oil on your face is not quite the same though… there are other things to consider like the potential for breakouts. Those with an oily skin would probably not want to use an oil all over – try targeting problem areas with it instead, especially patting gently around the eyes and mouth. But will it cause breakouts? No, I certainly didn’t receive any. The only downfall that I can tell is that it makes my fringe go greasy – so I pin it to the side and wash it the next day. I’d rather that, than have to face those crepey marks on my face.

I asked the scientists at Living Nature for some more information about the Radiance Night Oil and oils in general…

Radiance Night Oil, with its concentrated blend of precious Rose, Rosehip, Calendula, Carrot, Frankincense and Jojoba Oils has been scientifically proven* to increase hyaluronic acid synthesis to improve firmness, cell hydration, repair and rejuvenation – resulting in firmer, younger, more radiant skin.

Your skin repairs and renews itself as you sleep – use this special blend on its own after cleansing and toning, or give your skin the ultimate kiss goodnight by adding a few drops of Radiance Night Oil to Nourishing Night Cream for a moisture-rich skin boost. Treat your hands also with a few drops added to Nourishing Hand Cream for an overnight hand treatment.

Can people with Oily skin use an oil as a serum/cream?

Yes – while we would not recommend Radiance Night Oil as an all-over facial oil for oily skin, it is highly effective for treating fine lines and healing skin pigmentation and scarring.

Cleansing oils – how do they work?

Cleansing oils help to gently remove the debris from the skin. Calendula Oil is an effective skin cleanser, particularly for people with sensitive skin, rosacea, or for baby’s delicate skin, due to its calming and soothing properties.

Suitable for all skin types?

Radiance Night Oil is recommended for normal to dry & mature skin, and can be used as a specific treatment oil for oily skin types.

Why should we use oil on our skin?

The skin naturally produces it own oil, sebum, which helps to protect the skin.  Modern diets tend to lack the essential fatty acids the body needs to assist in the natural production of sebum.  In addition to this, environmental factors such as air-conditioners and heating, contribute to the external drying of the skin and it is therefore extremely important to utilize good quality oils, with proven efficacy, that can assist in both the protection and nourishment of the skin.

What benefits/advantages does it have over creams?

Unlike synthetic mineral oils (petrochemical derivatives), pure essential and vegetable oils have a very fine molecular structure and are therefore able to penetrate deeper into the skin, where the benefits of these oils can be utilized more readily.

Although one does get a certain amount of penetration from certain creams, they are designed to protect the outer layers of the skin, and therefore do not penetrate as deeply into the skin as pure natural oils do.  Creams assist by protecting the skin from free radical damage, keeping the skin soft and supple and create a protective barrier on the skin. Living Nature’s range includes both creams and oils for maximum benefit.
