Races Special: Step back in time hairstyles!
Well Gossies the races season is upon us- a time of hair dos, beautiful makeup, crazy fascinators and just overall flawlessness! So here at Beauty Goss we’ve put together a week long ‘Races Special’ to act as a guide to help you look your best this races season! But we couldn’t have done it without the knowledge from our panel of talented experts!
Introducing The Down Low’s Amber Peebles who is a regular attendee of these glamorous occasions, Nikki Lovrich who’s a makeup artist and stylist for the stars, Natalie Chan who’s a leading New Zealand designer of stylish, funky fascinators and Mana Dave who is the creative director of Pony Xpress, New Zealand’s first blow wave and style bar in Newmarket!
Today is the second post in our series and we’re looking at which hairstyles are in style for the races this year! We’ve spoken to Amber and Mana about which looks you should go for!
Amber:
- I love cute 50’s and 60’s dos at the races, but really it’s what goes with your hat and your face shape. Whatever you do make sure it can go the distance of the day.
Pro tip: always carry some extra bobby pins!
Mana:
- 70′s inspired tousled long locks is still very big at the moment – it’s soft, it has movement and works really well with a lot of the feminine race day dress looks that are in vogue. For this runway look:
1. Create a centre part and then work through dry hair a light texture spray like Redken’s Fabricate before blasting with a hairdryer. This will give your hair more grit and body.
2. Then take a 2.5cm curling tong and working around the head in vertical sections, spray with Redken’s Ironsilk and tong each section of hair for about five seconds, remove the tong and then clip the curl in place.
3. Continue from one side of the head, through the back and then complete on the other side.
4. Once the entire head is done, release each clip holding a curl and then gently rake your fingers through using L’Oreal Playball Pearl Whip It to create the soft cascading waves.
5. Spritz with a stronghold hairspray to maintain your style.
- This look can also be easily converted into another current trend – the loose casual updo.
1. Shift the centre part to your favourite side part position at the front and then on the opposite side in the nape area, pull all of your hair back into a low ponytail.
2. Now spray your tail with some Redken Forceful to give more hold and texture before taking random ribbons of your tonged hair and begin pinning up and around the base of your ponytail. This will create a soft loose updo when completed will look stylish but very effortless.
Keep an eye out for me at the Ellersile Boxing Day Races this year! I’ll be out snapping photos for our Facebook page and there will be prizes for the Gossies who have the best hair and makeup!
